Orphan Care Ministry
The Sunrise Orphan Care Ministry (or "OCM" as it is often called) began in April 2006. Its mission statement includes three main goals:
- Increase awareness of the plight of orphans in the world and the role Christians should play
- Encourage adoption by providing information and financial assistance
- Establish a relationship with an orphanage somewhere in the world
Since April of 2006, the Orphan Care Ministry Team has worked hard to accomplish each of these three goals.
To accomplish the first goal, Sunrise has held several child sponsorship events by partnering with World Vision and Compassion International. Child sponsorship provides each child with access to many things not otherwise available to them, such as clean water, education, and a chance to hear about Jesus.
The OCM has also had sent supply kits around the world to help those who are caring for those suffering from AIDS.
To help accomplish the third goal, Sunrise partnered with Buckner Orphan Care International in 2007 to begin sending Mission Teams to Peru to minister to those in orphanages and children's homes. Sunrise currently ministers at two homes in Lima, Peru: the first is a home for teenage girls who have been abused and now have babies; and the second is an orphanage for siblings who have either lost one or both parents, or whose parents cannot afford to care for them.

In 2007, Sunrise sent a team of 11 people (whose ages ranged from 11 to 70!) to minister to orphans and abused teenage mothers in Peru.
